INTRODUCTION TO ISLE OF MAN RECORDS SEARCH

The records contained in this section on the Isle of Man are read from microfilm by Madge Looney Crane.  The films in some cases are nearly impossible to read.  Names have various spellings, which have been preserved as they are in the original.
The postings at this site are ongoing as the research continues.  Keep in mind, however, researching is very time consuming.  New information may not appear at a very fast pace.  Researchers have yet  to produce any birth, baptism or marriage record for Robert (1) Looney.  These records may not even exist; but without exhausting the search, it remains a possibility that they do.  This is an attempt to organize some of the extant records covering the Isle of Man, make conclusions and comments and post copies of some or the records.

The following chart is a summary of the parish registers (baptisms, marriages, and burials) that are available (and dates covered) for each parish on the Isle of Man.

The objective of this search is to locate information about Robert (1) Looney, who traditionally married Elizabet Llewellyn.  It is claimed that Robert's family came from the Isle of Man.  Robert probably was born between 1692-1702 and possibly married about 1715.
Thousands of hours have been spent by researchers trying to locate Robert's date of birth/baptism and marriage, all without success.
Unquestionably the lack of information concerning Robert (1) Looney's early years is the greatest mystery surrounding the Looney family.  This Web site is an attempt to solve this mystery, or at least cover available records on this topic.
