Variations in spelling the Looney name found in Parish taxable properties.
Years 1680 - 1684
Maughold 1680 - John Looney
Wm. Looney
Rushen had Robt Lowy and Wm Lowy in 1680.
Then in 1681 and 1683 it was consistently spelled Lowey
No spellings were found in the Parish of Ann
Lonan - many times it was spelled Lowney and two times Lewne
Braddan had a long list and spelled at least four ways:
Lewne, Lowne, Lewney, and Lowney
Lonan had an interesting list in 1682 John Lowey, Jr and John Lowey, Sr. and the same in 1683. By 1684 it was listed as John Lowey and John Lewne
The names that repeatedly appear in the lists are:
John, Robert, William, Thomas, Gilbert

1685 Terrible epidemic must have caused a lot of sadness in Braddan in the year 1685. The first burials
were about March 1 and seemed to end about April 17th. I counted 44 burials for "child" or
"infant". No Looney names were listed.

1703 Ann Lewney ats Killey
No Comments were made with the burial notices. It was heart - warming to find the following:
John Craine ye Clarke of this Parish was bury'd 3rd Oct. 1704 - he came to Church the Day before he died to do his office being the Sabbath Day - and went home to his house and died on Monday - he was neare the Age of 80 years when he died; and read without Spects all Days of his Life and was an honest Man and well beloved of his Parish.
1707 Mrs. Margt Loweay - Relict of Parson Henry Loweay Jan 7th
Question: Could Parson Henry Loweay have written the beautful tribute to the Clarke of the Parish?
